Kyrenia on foot from the Dome Hotel's door: the old harbour, Kyrenia Castle, the old bazaar and the best sunset spots.
Morning: coffee on the seafront
Start the day on the seafront promenade right outside the hotel. Walking along the water while the sea is still calm is the best way to slip into Kyrenia's rhythm. Have a coffee on the seafront, then stroll a few minutes towards the harbour.
The old harbour
The horseshoe-shaped harbour is the heart of Kyrenia. Wander between the old stone buildings, fishing boats and excursion boats and watch the light change through the day. In the late afternoon the harbourside restaurants fill up, so book early for sunset.
Kyrenia Castle and the Shipwreck Museum
At the eastern end of the harbour, Kyrenia Castle carries the traces of many centuries. Inside, the Shipwreck Museum displays the remains of an ancient merchant ship found off the Kyrenia coast. The view of the harbour from the walls alone is worth the visit.
The old bazaar and side streets
The narrow streets leading inland from the harbour are full of small shops, crafts and local flavours. A light meze plate makes a perfect lunch.
Evening: sunset and dinner by the sea
Head back to the hotel for sunset at the American Bar. For dinner, the Anchor Restaurant, surrounded by the sea on three sides, is the most special table within walking distance.
The harbour and castle are an easy walk from the hotel. Bring comfortable shoes, and a hat and water in summer.
On Kyrenia harbour since the 1930s. Best rate when you book direct.
